海外流行的SQ3R学习法

SQ3R是国外经常采取的一种学习方法,深受学生们的欢迎。
S代表SURVEY,即总览,Q表示QUESTION,3R是指READ,RECITE,REVIEW,即阅读、背诵和复习。
SURVEY——在学习之前,应详细了解你要学习的课程,头脑要得出个大概。这有点像旅行之前,先看一看地图。要弄清楚你到底希望在这一堂课上学到什么,哪些内容是重点,这些都要心中有数。
QUESTION——要能随时提出问题。想真正检验自己是否学到知识,是否真正跟上老师的思路,就要敢于经常提问。这一点笔者也深有体会。在国外学习时,老师经常提出各种问题,踊跃回答的大多是国外学生,中国学生几乎都是寂静一片。除了听力和口语缘故以外,很大程度上是因为我们在国内不太注重这一方面的培养。提问除了智力因素外,很大程度上需要的是勇气,不担心自己的问题可笑,不害怕暴露自己的不懂之处。为了鼓励提问,国外有些大学把学期15%的分数放在日常上课中,目的就是要迫使你大胆提出自己的观点、勇于发表不同意见、勤于思考。除此之外,还要习惯向自己提问。无论是在平时看书还是在学习时,都要习惯于多问几个为什么。在回答的过程中,你会加深对所学知识的印象,更容易对其进行记忆。要准备一个笔记本,把问题的答案记在上面,如果有回答不上来的,也要记下来,以后好向老师请教。
READ——阅读不仅仅是拿眼睛扫过手中的材料。要边读边想。在阅读时,要试着回答先前自己或老师提出的问题。对于重点段落和文字尤其要注意,因为这里经常会体现出作者的意图以及他希望读者特别注意的地方。另外,在阅读时,不要放过任何一个细节,如图表、照片等。有时照片比文字更有说服力,隐藏有更多的故事呢。
RECITE——背诵不应该是把你所看过的每字每句都背下来,而是要把重要的概念、观点和核心思想记住。你也应当弄清重要图表代表什么。在背诵时,要把记忆的内容与你目前熟悉的人或物联系起来,方便记忆。
REVIEW——复习是了解你到底学到了哪些知识,是否巩固。它是对你应该学到的知识做一种回顾,而不是展望你将要学到哪些知识。在复习时,要认真看一看自己的笔记,了解自己还有哪些部分没有理解或漏过了。而复习的最佳时间是刚刚上完课,切不可等到快要考试了才开始复习。考前复习实际上是最后一道防线,是对自己所掌握的知识进行最后的“微调”,弥补知识结构中的细小漏洞。由于时间紧,压力大,这时已很不适于进行大规模的理解和记忆了。
下面我们来看一段文章:
Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 into a wealthy English family. So it was clear what she was expected to do when she grew up. She should marry a rich gentleman and raise a wealthy English family. But Florence had different plans. When she told her family that she wanted to work as a nurse in a hospital, they were shocked. In those days, hospitals were dirty, dreary places. Wealthy people paid doctors to come to their homes to take care of anyone who got sick. Only people with little money stayed in hospitals. And that often made things worse, since most hospitals were so filthy that disease spread faster there than anywhere else.
But Florence decided to devote her life to improving medical care in England. In 1854, England entered into war in part of Asia called Crimea. The English government asked Florence to go with 40 other nurses and run the hospital for British soldiers. She found the hospital dirty and full of disease, and the soldiers cold, starving, and badly wounded. Florence worked as hard as she could to keep British soldiers from dying. She was called “the lady with the lamp,” because she worked through the night, carrying a lamp to light her way.
在遇到这样一篇文章后,首先就要了解自己要从中学到什么?是新的语法现象或重点句型如过去式、被动语态和so...that等还是学习人家如何描述一位伟人,作为自己以后作文的范例。另外还要了解一下文章内容的历史背景,如克里米亚战争的概况,地理位置等。接下来的提问可就五花八门了,但核心依然是时间、地点、人物和事件。例如:When and where was Florence born? Why did Florence decide to devote her life to improving medical care in England? 当然,问题也可以富有一些想象力,例如:What would happen if Florence hadn't gone to Crimea? Were it not for Florence, what would our modern hospital be like? 要注意给自己提问的目的是为了开动脑筋、跟上老师的思路和方便自己的记忆。
在阅读时,一定要边读边暗自回答老师和自己提出的问题。本段文章的重点放在第二段。黑体部分所包含的词组要特别注意,这些都是关键词组。最好是边阅读,边在脑海中将文章的文字转为生动的画面来,便于理解和记忆。
背诵时,要注意把握文章的要旨。这篇文章主要讲述Florence投身于护理事业的来龙去脉,这是要首先了解的。重点词组和句型的记忆主要讲究用法和区别,即它们主要在什么情况下使用以及与其他同类词的区别。在本文中就要弄清so...that, such...that之间的区别;keep...from和它的同义 prevent...from, prohibit...from等的关联性。
最后一步当然是在考前认真复习这些重点,了解还有哪些地方没有掌握或不是很熟悉的。例如文中since, because 和when引导从句的用法。这有点像解剖,由浅入深,由表及里,层层递进,把问题都分析透了,考出好成绩自然不会是难事。
